    Mentoring Program

Work Health and Safety (WHS) mentoring

WHS Mentoring is a joint initiative by Comcare and the Commonwealth Safety Management Forum (CSMF). It will support agencies (particularly smaller or less-resourced agencies) to strengthen their WHS capability.

Mentoring is a professional relationship where a more experienced or senior colleague (mentor) uses their knowledge to support the development of someone less experienced (mentee). The mentee wants to develop skills and knowledge of something specific and is the driver of the mentoring relationship. The mentor encourages and challenges the mentee to look at issues from a variety of perspectives and focus on identifying solutions and decisions. Both mentor and mentee gain benefit from the mentoring relationship.

WHS mentoring relationships will allow the problem-solving experience of WHS practitioners to be shared with others to enhance health and safety at work.

The CSMF is developing a list of WHS practitioners who are interested in providing mentoring services. The WHS mentoring quick guide [PDF,157KB] provides more information on how to establish a mentoring relationship.
